Parents leave and Benefit Act 2019 - What Employers need to know

The Minister for Justice and Equality and the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection published the Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 in October 2019. This element of legislation on Parent Leave came into effect today 1st November 2019. This legislation will provide for up to 2 weeks' paid parent leave for “relevant” parents.

Drugs & Alcohol in the Workplace

It is important that Employers are clear as to what their obligations are if an Employee attends for work under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol (an intoxicant). An “intoxicant” is defined in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 as “alcohol and drugs and any combination of drugs or of drugs and alcohol”. This definition encompasses both legal and illegal substances, it includes prescribed drugs and over the counter medications.

Hiring under 18's for the festive period
