Adare Human Resource Management consultants are highly experienced practitioners, coming from backgrounds where they have worked alongside Executive, Senior and Line management. Here, our team gained firsthand experience in understanding business and organisational needs so as to deliver effective management of personnel and of best practice HR solutions.

Derek McKay

Managing Director

Derek McKay, BBS, Chartered MCIPD, is an experienced Human Resource and Employment Law practitioner who has worked extensively in both the private and public sectors.

Derek’s role involves overseeing the HR and Employment Law support services provided to clients across a wide range of sectors by the team of consultants within Adare Human Resource Management. Derek regularly speaks at seminars for companies and associations throughout the country on HR and Employment related topics and contributes to numerous publications in this area also.

Prior to setting up Adare Human Resource Management in 2003, Derek worked in the Human Resource Departments in a number of multinational organisations.

Katie Ridge

Head of Employer Relations

Katie Ridge, Chartered MCIPD, Barrister at Law, has practical Human Resource experience combined with substantial employment law knowledge and workplace investigation know how. She has supported many Organisations by providing practical legal and professional advice and guidance.

Katie has a broad range of employment law experience specialising in workplace investigations, grievance and disciplinary matters, as well as representing Organisations in the Workplace Relations Commission and Labour Court.

Prior to joining Adare Human Resource Management, Katie has supported a diverse range of private, not-for-profit and public sector Organisations. She has worked as a barrister for 15 years in addition to her 10 years working within HR roles. 

Katie’s role is to support Adare Human Resource Management clients in the provision of timely and practical employment law advice and guidance.

Tommy Cummins

Head of Industrial Relations

Tommy Cummins advises Adare Human Resource Management clients on significant and large scale industrial relations issues. Tommy regularly represents Organisations in the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court.

In his role of Head of Industrial Relations, Tommy assists unionised Organisations in the design, development and delivery of Organisational change through an Employee Relations framework, including redefinition of established IR processes and introduction of Pay and Reward structures to drive tangible productivity gain within the Organisation. 

Prior to working with Adare Human Resource Management, Tommy worked for over 25 years in a senior HR capacity within diverse multinational organisations such as Fujitsu Microelectronics, IBM and AXA Insurance. 

Tommy’s achievements have been recognised within the fields of IR and HR when he was an invited speaker at the previous IRN Conferences and also a Winner of the CIPD Watson Wyatt HR Innovation Award.

Paddy McHugh

Health and Safety, Senior Consultant

Paddy McHugh has been working as a safety consultant for close to 15 years. He qualified as a safety inspector with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) in 2000. He completed Master’s Degree, M.Sc. (Hons),  in Training and Performance Management with Leicester University. He is a member of the Irish Institute of Training and Development and is chairperson of the North East Region. Paddy has extensive experience and involvement in safety management across sectors. Paddy’s methodology focuses on workable safety solutions for Adare Human Resource Management’s clients that complement existing working practices.

Paddy has previously conducted work on behalf of the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) in the education sector. In October 2012, Paddy was the key note speaker at the AGM of the Federation of Catholic Voluntary Nursing Homes where he delivered a talk on “HIQA Risk Management Requirements within the Care Sector”.

 Non-Executive Directors at Adare Human Resource Management

Kieran Mulvey

Non- Executive Director, Chairperson

Kieran Mulvey was Chief Executive of the Labour Relations Commission since its inception in 1991 and subsequently took on the role of Director General of the Workplace Relations Commission in 2015, retiring in June 2016.

Kieran is a graduate of UCD (BA, HDE, Dip. in Employment Law), Honorary Professor of the School of Management at Queens University in Belfast, Fellow of the Educational Institute of Scotland and holds Honorary Doctorates in Law from the National University of Ireland and UCD.

He was awarded the first Honorary Fellowship of the CIPD and a lifetime membership of the ELAI, for his respective contribution to HR/IR and Employment Law in Ireland.

Kieran is a former General Secretary of the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland (ASTI) and Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT). Kieran has also acted as a Consultant with the EU, National Economic and Social Council, Eurofound and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on matters relating to public management, human resources and industrial relations. He chaired the negotiations which led to the Public Service Croke Park, Haddington Road and Lansdowne Road Agreements.  

He is a trustee of “Frontline Defenders” – the International Foundation for Human Rights Defenders. Kieran has also held many posts as a member of State Boards and Universities including Health, Economic, Social Council, Broadcasting and Overseas Development and is currently Chair of Sport Ireland.

He has authored and contributed various reports for the European Foundation and the ILO, as well as articles to several professional journals.

He was recently commissioned by the Government to author a Report on the Regeneration of Dublin’s' North East Inner City and to mediate an Agreement on the New Maternity Hospital at Elm Park.



John Murray

Non- Executive Director

John Murray has worked for over 25 years in leadership roles within a variety of industry sectors nationally and internationally including start up technology, product distribution, professional services, manufacturing and corporate finance.

A native of Athlone, a graduate of the Athlone Institute of Technology Business School and a qualified accountant John has been Managing Director of Hibernia Corporate Finance since 2005 and he brings a wide variety of financial and commercial attributes to the company.

With over 20 years international professional services experience John has a deep understanding of the market in which Adare operates and he is committed to helping the business achieve its full potential.

 

Padraig McKeon

Non- Executive Director

Padraig McKeon has worked for over 25 years as a leader, advisor and manager in the corporate communications industry. During that time he has worked closely with a broad range of Ireland’s leading business and public sector organisations.

A native of Sligo and a graduate of Dublin City University, Padraig was Managing Director of leading public relations firm Drury Communications from 2003 to 2010 having previously run a start up business for the same organisation in Budapest, Hungary for two years and served on the board of its Northern Ireland subsidiary. He is also a founding shareholder and non executive Director of radio station Ocean FM, Chairman of the Sligo Live music festival and a Director of Dublin Simon.

Padraig brings a strong knowledge of the market environment for professional services firms to Adare as well as extensive knowledge of a number of key industry sectors in which it operates.
