The Labour Party’s Duncan Smith TD has confirmed he will introduce the Organisation of Working Time (Leave for Health Screening Purposes) Bill 2025 in the Dáil on Thursday, March 26th. The legislation proposes to provide statutory paid leave for workers attending HSE cancer screening appointments.

The Bill seeks to remove financial and workplace barriers that prevent people from attending vital screenings, and the Labour Party will call on the Government to act immediately to support the measure and prioritise early detection.

The draft legislation proposes to achieve these aims by ensuring that all Employees, regardless of their employment status, can access statutory paid leave to attend screenings.

The Labour Party will argue that their Health Screening Leave Bill is ready to be passed and will be encouraging the Government to adopt the legislation without delay.
