Outcry over agency staff rules
The list of new business regulations introduced on October 1- one of the two annual “red tape days” designated by the government – is shorter than in previous years. But the outcry from business groups about the bill for the new rules has been as loud as ever.
Most concern has been expressed about the introduction of rules granting agency workers equal rights to full-time staff after 12 weeks in a job. It is a requirement to meet EU regulation,s but a measure the Confederation of British Industry claims will cost UK employers an estimated £1.8bn a year and affect more than 1.6m employees.
