Brought to you in partnership with the Wheel, this session is an overview of key considerations relating to employment law changes and the impact on employee relations.  

Performance management is one of the central activities that, when successfully carried out, enables employees to know that their contributions are recognised and acknowledged.  

When fully realised, performance management is a strategic and integrated approach to improving the performance of employees and teams which in turn raises the performance standard of the organisation as a whole. 


Content of Training Programme

The challenge for organisations to remain competitive and agile, coupled with the need for organisations to support their People Managers to manage performance effectively (both remote and in-person) is ever-present. 

It is crucial for all organisations to ensure their HR teams and People Managers are given the skills and insight to effectively manage performance. 

The aim of this workshop is to support and give guidance on the skills and competence required for people managers (supervisors, managers and leaders) to carry out performance management effectively. 


Aims and Objectives 
  • Participants will better understand the performance management process, the link to organisational objectives, the role of the manager in the process and what makes for effective performance management   

  • Participants will be better prepared in carrying out performance management through the examination of performance management planning, objective setting, focusing not just on the ‘what’ (objectives) but the ‘how’ (behaviours), providing feedback, managing difficult conversations and managing for improved performance.


The programme will include: 

The Performance Management Process  

  • Understanding the importance of your role as a manager of performance 

  • Understanding the process of performance management and the importance of linking it to organisational strategy.


Objective Setting & Employee Development  

  • Planning and preparing for appraisals 

  • Gaining commitment and agreement to SMART goals 

  • Linking performance management with learning and development.

  • Giving feedback and managing difficult conversations  

  • Giving positive and constructive feedback  

  • Performance improvement planning and coaching for improved performance 

  • Understanding the risks associated with managing, and not managing, under-performance  

  • Managing under-performance into disciplinary.
