  • Topic - Zero Hour Contracts & Banded Hour Contracts – changes planned to the legislation

    A zero hours contract differs from a casual contract in that it requires the Employee to be available when called. A zero hours contract is regulated by the Organisation of Working Time Act, which require that even where the Employee is not provided with any work during their working week, they will be entitled to a minimum payment in respect of the time that they were available to the Employer. If an Organisation cannot provide Employee work for the contracted hours, it is required to pay the Employee at least 25% of the contracted hours or 15 hours (whichever is less).
