  • Legislative Changes Likely Following Clerys & Dunnes Disputes

    SIPTU members announced the setting up of a petition calling on Clerys new owners Natrium to meet with workers representatives to “discuss the purchase and subsequent application to the Courts to put the company into liquidation and the consequences of these actions on the workers”.It is also understood that a group of Clerys shop stewards also met with the Minister for Social Protection and Tánaiste, Joan Burton, in Liberty Hall last week to discuss the situation, as well as the speedy payment of redundancy entitlement claims to the State.

  • Red Circling Defined In Aer Lingus SIPTU Case

    In a finding published this month the Labour Court upheld a decision of the Rights Commissioner in a case relating to “Red Circling” and the application of the concept, both as it relates to general principles and in the context of a Long Service Increment (LSI). The case relates to a claim by SIPTU on behalf of two Employees at Aer Lingus concerning the non-payment of a Long Service Increment (LSI) having completed 20 years’ service and is referenced as Labour Court .
