New Code of Practice on determining employment status

An updated Code of Practice on Determining Employment Status has been published and employers are urged to review them, particularly if they use contractors. The purpose of the revised Code of Practice is to make the criteria that classifies someone as an employee or self-employed clearer.

Social media & messaging apps – help or hindrance for employers

The use of the social media in the workplace raised its head again recently in a WRC case where an employee won his unfair dismissal claim. The full details of the case are outlined in this newsletter but in summary the employee’s company had a ‘WhatsApp’ group that was formed to see which employees were agreeable to wage subsidy scheme.
