Minimum Wage Increasing to €11.30 from 1st January 2023

The Government is to approve an increase of 80 cent on the Minimum Wage, bringing it from the current rate of €10.50 per hour to €11.30 per hour. The increase is to take effect from 1st January 2023.

An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar also stated recently that the Minimum Wage will be phased out and replaced by the Living Wage, by 2026. The current Living Wage is €12.17 per hour and it is expected that this will increase to €13.10 next year.
 



Statutory Sick Pay Comes into Force on 1st January 2023

The Sick Leave Act 2022, which entitles Employees to paid sick leave as well as State illness benefits, comes into effect from 1st January 2023.

Initially, Employees will be entitled to three days for the first year (2023), increasing to five days in 2024, seven days the year after and, by 2026, Employees will get 10 days paid sick leave. Employees will be required to provide a medical cert from a registered medical professional.

Employers will be required to pay a rate of 70% of the Employee’s pay up to a maximum of €110.
