  • WORKER AWARDED RETROSPECTION PAY FROM 2013

    In an appeal case heard last month (September 2017) under the IR Acts the Labour Court significantly altered an earlier WRC Adjudicator award and recommended in its decision that the worker in question be paid the appropriate rate for the role retrospective to 1st October 2013. The case was taken by SIPTU on behalf of a worker employed in the HSE (Decision No Ref: LCR21576).

  • LABOUR COURT PAY RECOMMENDATIONS REMAIN WELL AHEAD OF INFLATION

    According to the CSO, Ireland’s inflation figure peaked at about 0.9% in April of this year and it currently stands at around 0.3%. All sources have CPI (Consumer Price Index) at under a half of one percent. The CPI was traditionally applied in arguments relating to workers pay claims. Indeed during the years of centralised bargaining between 1987 and 2008 the CPI was the main barometer applied in determining the outcomes of those discussions.
